The theme for this year is <strong><em>Together for DLD.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> By working together, we can build a better world for all with DLD.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Tips on how we can support children&#8217;s understanding:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>1. Make language clear and explicit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children benefit from language that is clear, direct and carefully taught. You can do this by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giving examples.<\/li>\n<li>Showing your child what you mean.<\/li>\n<li>Giving feedback and encouragement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Check Understanding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Give children opportunities to show what they understand. You can use language like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTell me what we&#8217;re going to do first.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCan you show me?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhat do you think that word means?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Give language a visual<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Visual supports can make important information stand out and provide another way for children to access what they&#8217;re learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Help your child become their own advocate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the most important long-term goals we can work towards is helping children understand and communicate what they need.
